Vandalism at St Peter’s by churchwarden Lorraine Watkins.

I have been a warden here at St Peter’s since 2002 and it is a great privilege to be one of the guardians of such a beautiful building. It is therefore with great sorrow that I have been prompted to write this letter. I feel it is important to share with you the huge problems we are having with vandalism to the church itself, in and around the grounds and to the church hall. At the end of last year we had yet another one of the stained glass windows broken – which has been taken away at great cost for repair. At the very beginning of this year, the wall by the telephone box has been smashed down for no apparent reason. The hall windows are being constantly broken. This is just a snapshot of the problems we are having. We understand that if somewhere looks uncared for it attracts problems and we are doing our best to keep on top of things. The rubbish is also a constant problem as is the dog fouling. All these things take time and money to correct. We are a small but growing congregation doing the best we can against an ever rising tide.
So, if your readers should see or hear anything untoward going on in or around the church grounds, please let someone know. Call the police, call the vicar, or call me. Our numbers are on the notice board. With help we could stop at least some of the vandalism. Come and speak to us at the church – a very warm welcome is waiting for you. We are here every Sunday for the service at 10am.
