Interviewing Chris Chantler,  showroom manager and designer for HKS London Road, in one of the kitchens on display, the Voice admired the stylish gothic windows. "Where we’re sitting used to be a chapel of rest. The windows are original, there used to be double doors and a slope outside, so bodies could be easily wheeled in and out."
The premises have always been a furniture store and were originally Grey’s, who owned the chapel of rest as well. The premises became the first showroom of HKS, (Hastings Kitchen Studio), in 1983. HKS now supply bathrooms and bedrooms, and have four showrooms – Bohemia, Eastbourne, Heathfield and Hayward’s Heath. Chris has been with HKS for 21 years – she describes their range as "mid to top end of the market – in the last five years, people from London have bought big Victorian houses here, and can afford to have high quality work done." HKS have done kitchens, bathrooms, fitted bedrooms and studies or home offices for beautiful country homes, oast-houses and manor houses.
