Mick 50 years in shoes
Mick Triggs comes from a long line of shoemakers. “My family have been making shoes for over 150 years,” he told the Voice recently. Mick has been in the trade for fifty years himself, starting out at a shoe factory in London in 1957 when he left school. He moved to Hastings in 1958 to take a five-year apprenticeship with Norman Backshall. Afterwards he ran his own business in Bexhill for many years, and has been at his current premises in London Road since August 2006. As well as shoe repairs he does key-cutting, bags and watch-straps, and has just got in a selection of walking sticks. When Mick isn’t repairing customers’ shoes, his hobby is restoring old motorbikes. He has just restored an old Yamaha, and is now doing another.
