Bohemia gets ready to party at the Fayre

Village Fairy

Village Fairy

The Bohemia Village Fayre, first reported in the Village Voice back in May, has now been confirmed for Sunday 12th August between 1pm and 9pm. The Fayre will take place on the grassy knoll between Summer-fields Leisure Centre and the ambulance station, and will feature a range of local bands. Fayre co-organiser Kat Lee provides the lowdown on each of the acts confirmed so far.
‘Red Diesel – an unusual funky 4-piece direct from the outskirts of Bohemia, playing original well-crafted funk and blues. A little bit Joplin, with a healthy injection of Miss Fatti Wu-Wu, supported ably by Wilpower and Afro-Max. Not to be missed.
‘Zoe Konez – a superb singer-songwriter from outer Bohemia, with excellent guitar and brilliant words.
‘Herbal Love – more Warrior Square than Bohemia, but close enough! Playing reggae and dub, some original material, some covers – always willing to play for local events. A true community-spirited band – and good to dance to too.
‘Tribal Goddess – three powerful women: one singer-songwriter, one flautist, and one soul diva. What a treat – and from Bohemia Central!
‘Bohemia Ukelele Band – a trio of troupers from downtown Bohemia, playing tunes on ukeleles. Absolutely not to be missed.
‘Dub Fish Funk – the between-set music will be provided by the very Bohemian Dub Fish Funk DJs, aka Afromax and the Reverend. Wear comfortable shoes.
‘Bograt – a mystery outfit playing village punk, the Fayre will be their debut gig. But they’re very much an unknown quantity. Even the line-up is still to be decided.’
Kat says that more acts are still to be confirmed, but there will also be the children’s tent and the refreshments and food stalls originally promised. ‘The kids’ tent will be provided by Andreswald Arts and Recycling. You can do rag-weaving or mural-painting, play blow football or try racing on the solar-powered Scalextrix. And there’s messy-paint play for the smaller ones. There will also be face-painters, plus a treasure hunt through Summer-fields Wood, starting at 3pm. Andreswald are the arts company who do the kids’ area at the very popular Small World gathering at Headcorn in Kent.
‘The stalls offer everything from natural soap to clothes to candle-dipping to tarot-reading. Excellent vegetarian food will be provided by The Rooms, who are promising to be in a very burlesque mood, while Lidl have also agreed to supply food for the bands.’ Kat says stallholders wishing to book a pitch should contact Jules on purplefurball@yahoo.com. But hurry – most spaces are already taken.

Red Diesel will play this year at the Bohemia Village Fayre.
