Museum volunteers needed

The Village Voice was recently given a guided tour of the new displays at Hastings Museum, which is due to reopen on Saturday 28th July. Anyone who received our earlier issues will know of the building of a new extension, designed by architect Thomas Ford, during which period – some two years – the museum has been closed to the public.
The new section boasts two full-length picture windows and a new gallery. Elsewhere in the museum there are new or updated displays, many with state-of-the-art interactive features. Displays Manager Beatrice Cole took us round every room, and a detailed description of the new layout will be included in our next issue.  Beatrice also made an appeal to readers who would like to help out. ‘We’ve got ten volunteers at the moment, but we need more. All kinds of things need doing, so the range of skills we’re looking for is very wide. Anyone who is PC-literate would be good at cataloguing and archiving, but we also need practical skills – people who can make things and have a good eye for detail. We can find a job for everybody, whatever their skills.’
The various displays are coming together well, but Beatrice insists there is still an awful lot to do before the big day. Anyone interested in volunteering can phone her on 451152.
