No Controlled Parking Zone for Bohemia pleads Andrew Cartwright

Recently restored Gensing councillor Andrew Cart-wright has begun his tenure by taking one of the biggest issues facing Bohemia firmly by the horns. Already the recipient of various requests or complaints from residents and businesses in the area, including one from the Village Voice, Andrew has formally invited Rasoul Shahilow, Hastings Council’s Parking Manager, to pay a visit to Bohemia this month and see the problems for himself.
Among the measures local people have suggested are individual schemes affecting London Road, Salisbury Road, St Paul’s Road and Horntye Road. Andrew writes in his letter to Mr Shahilow, dated 11th June, ‘My own view is that a number of parking-control measures might well benefit both residents and traders. However, it is vital that a fresh approach is taken and that the Council makes proposals which are sensitive to the needs of residents and traders. It is essential that controlled parking is not implemented as a blunt instrument and that the mistakes made in the proposals for controlled parking in Central St Leonards are not repeated in Bohemia.’
The letter also cautions, ‘Requests for parking-control measures in Bohemia must not be regarded by the Council as an opportunity for generating revenue, and any proposals which are based on a desire to raise funds to pay for other projects will not be acceptable to either residents or traders.’
Could this be progress at last in the issue that does most to prevent our area from thriving? Keep reading the Village Voice in the coming months.
