Deputy Mayor Vivienne worries about twin bins

Cllr Vivienne Bond - looking forward to Deputy Mayor duties.

Cllr Vivienne Bond - looking forward to Deputy Mayor duties.

Congratulations to our local councillor Vivienne Bond on being elected Deputy Mayor of Hastings. Lib Dem councillor Vivienne was elected by 20 votes to 12 at the mayor- making ceremony on Wednesday 16th May having been nominated by Paul Smith. She will still continue with all her duties as councillor. ‘I’m really looking forward to getting out and about meeting people from the whole of Hastings, and I’m going to be really busy during Hastings Week when the Mayor, Maureen Charlesworth, is away on holiday,’ she said. Are there any perks? ‘Yes –  I’ll get an £1,800 dress allowance.’
‘Because of the changes brought about after the recent election, I’m no longer on the planning committee. This means that I can actually speak more freely at future planning meetings without breaking the “code of conduct” rules. I’ll be able to represent Gensing Ward much better and will be able to speak out on our behalf.’ Vivienne has made no secret of the fact that she’d like to be mayor one day … she’s certainly on her way.
TWIN BIN WORRY
Vivienne is currently concerned about the twin-bin scheme being proposed for the town – both the scheme itself and the way it was announced. ‘We were told about the twin-bin scheme at the Council meeting, but the Council didn’t stress that rubbish would now be collected every other week. They sneaked it through without discussion. Obviously, we all need to be recycling, but I’m also worried about the new bagless bins, particularly over the two-week period they’re changing to. It’s a recipe for spreading disease. I think we need to look at this again before it’s implemented.’
