Tricia Kennelly Liberal Democrat Party

Tricia Kennelly.

Tricia Kennelly.

Voice: What’s your background?
Tricia: Our family has lived in Hastings on and off since the early seventies. Both of our children were schooled here, and both still live and work here. I am now retired, but my professional life was spent as an administrator and lecturer. I live in Albourne Road, in West St Leonards, though my daughter lives in Cumberland Gardens, so I know this area well. It’s a really socially mixed ward. That’s what’s so wonderful about it.
Voice: What’s your political experience?
Tricia: I’ve been a Lib Dem supporter since the early 80s. I very much admire Deirdre Razzel and Paddy Ashdown. I’ve worked for the party for more than 20 years, and I’ve previously stood as a candidate in other wards.
Voice: What are the local issues?
Tricia: Parking is a big issue on the doorstep. People are worried about the prospect of a CPZ here. They’re also concerned about the pier. They don’t want any more money spent on it. The recycling scheme has also been raised. People wonder whether it’s all a waste of time. The threats to A&E and maternity units at the Conquest are also a big issue, though there’s not much the council can do there. And then there’s dog mess, of course.
Voice: What are the biggest issues for you?
Tricia: People are not being listened to by councillors. What’s the point of empowering people and then not listening to them.
Voice: What do you plan to do if elected?
Tricia: I’ll worry about that when it happens. I’m finding it interesting enough just finding out what people’s problems are.
Voice: What distinguishes you from the other candidates?
Tricia: I’m retired, so I’ll have as much time as I need to do the job. That’s something that people grumble about. I’m also interested in people, not political promotion.
Voice: What do you think we should ask ask the other candidates?
Tricia: The same questions. We’re all trying to get to the same point. It should be interesting to see what they all say.
