Puzzle Corner 44 – answer
Those of you still pondering the answer to the puzzle we set in the last issue (16th December 2006) can now be put out of their misery. George Monger (1840–87), who lived in Tower Road, is a local man who won a Victoria Cross at the Siege of Lucknow, according to the plaque on the property in Tower Road. Three correct entries were received, and the winner (randomly selected) is Tim Whitfield of Cornfield Terrace. Tim has been sent a £10 token from Empress Art of Tower Road.
