Drip, drip, drip at Park Rd Church

Park Road Methodist Church - new vestibule gets a soaking.

Park Road Church’s new vestibule, opened in July this year has sprung a leak – several in fact. The £170,000 extension to the front of the church, made possible by a generous donation from the Mabel Whitworth fund, has found the recent foul weather a bit too much to cope with. Charles Levett explained: “The problem started with the very windy weather we had a couple of weeks ago. We think the rain got in under the lead flashing. It’s been reported to the builders, Hills & Pollington, who will be carrying out the repairs. Michael Ward is liaising with them.  We’ve put down buckets and bowls to try to save the carpet from being ruined.” Has the vestibule been useful? “It’s  really an overgrown porch and as such is extremely useful during funerals and weddings where people can assemble prior to services, and the fact that there’s a toilet there is very handy,” said Charles. And is the work quite finished? “No, not quite,” said Charles “It’s still not quite finished – there’s still some timber dressing of the old front door to be done.”
