Well, well, well, Elvis helps out

The King - helping to provide wells for Bangladesh.

The King - helping to provide wells for Bangladesh.

Yes, Elvis (or local councillor Richard Stevens as he is better known), is being resurrected tonight as part of a fund-raising effort to provide water wells in Bangladesh. Richard, who lives in Bayeux Court, Bohemia Road, has been involved in the programme for ‘about ten years’ and has traveled five times to Bangladesh, at his own expense, to oversee the drilling of the wells. He says “All Bangladesh lies below sea level and is subject to regular flooding. Many villages do not have safe drinking water. Since 1966, I have been raising money to provide deep ‘tube wells’ in the south of the country, where the need is greatest. The wells, which cost about £550 each, are sunk to a depth of about 900ft, and each one can serve about 5,000 people. We’ve provided 35 wells to date.” Richard works under the ‘Oxford Mission’ charity and appeals for any donations to be sent to him.
Elvis himself will be appearing at The Famous Lillie Langtry’s tonight from 7pm. The party is called Boogie for Bangladesh and will be held at the Old Market Hall in George Street. Also on the bill are top vocalist Graham Port and the Senlac 1066 Highsteppers. Oh, and Frank Sinatra has promised to make an appearance.
