Three museums – in Hastings, Bexhill and Fecamp in France – have become the best of friends. A cool two hundred thousand pounds grant is being shared by the three institutions. Hastings Museum’s Beatrice Cole says “As part of the project we will be producing joint bi-lingual (French/English) labels, guide books, audio tours and pamphlets as well as providing some of our staff with language lessons and organising staff exchanges. The museums will also share knowledge on conservation techniques and education experience”.

She continues, “All three museums are undergoing renewal with a range of improvements planned. Hastings Museum, due to reopen spring 2007, is experiencing major refurbishments, including the addition of a new extension, improved disabled access and the redisplay of our artefacts.

Under new plans, Fecamp’s museum (which documents and celebrates the once thriving herring fishing industry) will be relocated to the main bay in the harbour, and will take over an old smokery / fishing factory. The plans for Fecamp’s Museum include a viewing deck at the top of the building which will boast spectacular views across the town and harbour.

There will also be 3D plans of the town for the blind, interactive displays and a real herring fishing boat hung from the ceiling. This is all part of ambitious long term plans to regenerate Fecamp.
