The Bohemia Area Association held its monthly committee meeting at the YMCA on Thursday 6 July. Peter Holland was in the chair.

ARTIST

The BAA has applied to sponsor an artist for an upcoming local festival. Peter said there had been far more offers of sponsorship than artists and it would have to be seen whether the BAA is ‘allocated’ an artist or not.

‘NO LITTER, NO DIRT’

Much dissatisfaction was expressed regarding the new Hastings Borough cleaning contractors, (Veolia) and their poor showing since starting their new contract, North Road being described as ‘an absolute tip, with nappies strewn over the street’. Apparently government guidelines say that the cleaning companies should leave ‘no litter, no dirt, no detritus’ – or face a fine. Conservative councillor Daniel Poulter promised to chase up the council. There were calls for letters to the newspapers – a petition – and even direct action if Veolia don’t get their act together pretty soon. Any resident wishing to complain direct to Veolia should ring 0845 274 1077.

MONEY

BAA treasurer (Michael Ward) reported practically no movement in the associations finances: in the past year £570 was received and £566 was spent leaving a ‘profit’ of just £4 for the year; the bank balance showed £718, up £4 from last year’s £714.

NEWSLETTER

Andy Holmes, BAA Newsletter editor, said he had received sufficient material for the next issue, due out in August, and did not require any more, thank you.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

Peter handed out membership cards and info packs to committee members who will be calling on local residents in the near future to try to prise £1 membership fees from them. Andy Holmes will be covering St Peter’s Road, and Charles Levett will be calling on Clarence Road residents. Anyone resident, trading or a corporate organisation in the

area covered by the Association is eligible for membership.

BOHEMIA BYGONES

Terry Foord, organiser of the planned Bohemia Bygones exhibition in September at Park Road Methodist Church, appealed again for anyone with old photos of Bohemia to loan them for the exhibition. He can be reached at Munday’s Newsagents on 437233.
