Naming the twittens

There are several little alleyways, walks, cut-throughs, passageways, call them what you will, in Bohemia, and as far as I can make out, (writes John L Humphries) none of them have any official (or unofficial?) names. It may well be the case that some of them do have names but if so, they aren’t displayed. Take for instance, the one running between Tower Road and Lower South Road, often used for dumping unwanted furniture and latterly for drug dealing. As far as I know this passageway has no name. I personally call it ‘Christchurch Walk’, but as no-one else does, that’s pretty pointless!

Perhaps the Bohemia Area Association could get involved by  a) conducting a survey, possibly using the vehicle of the BAA Newsletter –asking for local residents’ suggestions for names and b) choosing from the suggestions the ‘best’ names, c) asking the council to put up the name-plates at the ends of each passageway.

Seven twittens that spring to mind are: Aldborough Road to Amhurst Road; Aldborough Road to Newgate Road; Bohemia Road to Spring Street (the small passageway leading from Bohemia Road to the top of Spring Street); Lower South Road to North Road; Lower South Road to Tower Road; Salisbury Road to St Paul’s Road; Upper Park Road to Upper South Road (I think Vic Chalcraft said this used to be called ‘Shornden Walk’). I’ve probably missed some. Do you have any opinions about names you’d like to see adopted?
