We Produce Too Much Rubbish

Peter Winder writes (Jul 2009)

Dear Sir, the basic problem with rubbish removal is that it is insoluble (in the sense that it cannot be solved).  We produce too much rubbish, we do not want our footpaths or streets cluttered with bins for practical and aesthetic reasons, we don’t like having refuse scattered from plastic bags by seagulls, dogs or foxes, we are not prepared to take the rubbish to central collection depots and, even if we were the plastic sacks themselves are a re-cycling nuisance.

It is also difficult to really believe in the value of re-cycling. Are all the different types of plastic pots etc. really melted down and turned into something useful?  And cardboard, much already made from re-cycled materials, is it re-cycled again?
