Summerfields photographs 1910
The following set of photographs was kindly donated by Nick Aldridge, one-time teacher at Summerfields School. The only dates given are 1910, 1911 and 1912. It is assumed that undated photographs are from the same period, but this may not be the case.
Boys in hay the second picture, showing two boys has the following note written on the reverse of the photograph “Matty and Sellycombes [?] in hayfield, Summerfields, St Leonards, 1910. Matty was I believe killed when shot down in first war”.
Dining room this postcard has been addressed to “Miss M Cave, Peplow Hall, Market Drayton, Salop” and bears the following text: “My dear Dulcie [‘Dulcie’ crossed out] Miss Cave, this is a picture of the new dining room. Will you thank mother for the postcard. Your loving brother Alex Stanier. I will write to Dulcie soon” A further note adds “Post Card sent to my old governess, 1910, Miss Cave”.
Playing golf the text on the reverse of this photograph reads “Playing golf, Summerfields, 1910-12. Lindsey driving off watched by Alexander Red & White cap. Also Miss Shilcock who taught at the school and married a master who took these photos (Stabwell-Brown [?])
Cricket the photograph of the Second XI bears the following text on its reverse: “Cricket 2nd XI 1910-12. Lindsy. Barnes. D’Eyncourt mi[nor]. Alexander, Ramsey, Lowsley-Williams, Chance, Leo Williams, Alington, D’Eyncourt ma[jor], Bullough
