Dear Sir, I have just noticed the shop front [at 79, Bohemia Road]. Is it art nouveau or art deco? Either way, it looks wonderful. Also the tiles covering the walls look as though they are from the same period – a classic design and well-fitted too. I hope that all the work you intend to do on the shop does not affect the shop too much.

We have it on good authority – Hastings Borough Council’s Conservation Office no less – that the shop front and tiles are ‘Art Nouveau’. In fact, it was the existence of the tiles in such good condition which led to the building being accepted for ‘Grade II’ listing in 2004. Ed.
