Brian Hick’s 65 birthday
Dr Brian Hick (picture: red jacket, blue hat) celebrated his 65th birthday on 30 April 2010 with a boat trip for family and friends.
The author of A Lark on the South Downs Way took them from Eastbourne’s Sovereign Harbour round Beachy Head, along the Seven Sisters to Cuckmere Haven where some of his friends had arranged a surprise – ‘Happy Birthday Brian’ was written on the wall below the cottages in letters clear enough to be seen well out to sea!
As one friend remarked ‘the sea was just rough enough to be interesting, but not enough to put anybody off their champagne’.
