The Star is Going Out

I am suspected of the murder of Lucy Rose, a famous singer. Simple as that. The police think I was the one who killed her. Which I can tell you first-hand I was not.
I can see why they think it was me but it wasn’t. I was drunk and half out of my mind. I was at the fair with my friends Ashley, my ex-girlfriend and quite bright; Wesley, he was a hard street kid who you did not want to get on the wrong side of. Seriously, he punched a kid’s tooth out and was known to have cut someone with a Stanley knife. Eric was Wesley’s sort of follower, he thought he was hard, but he wasn’t really.
He came from the Greenwall estate, the same as Wesley. It was a rundown place, known for its gang wars and drug dealers. The last one of us was Freddy. He lived next door to me, his mum and dad always bossed him around. I was Freddy’s only friend. He was weird. He never socialised with people and the only reason he was here was because of me. Anyway, all of us met at that fair at about 8:00. Wesley had brought some wine and beer with him, that’s why I was drunk.
We were walking around, all the noise blaring in our ears.
‘ROLL UP! ROLL UP! ALWAYS WIN A PRIZE!’, ‘GET YOUR FOOD!’, and ‘ARE YOU BRAVE ENOUGH?’
Freddy kept saying ‘The star is going out’. It was all just noise. Then suddenly we saw Lucy Rose. Why was she here? Probably just trying to get attention from all the TV crews and news reporters. I suddenly needed to go to the toilet, probably all the wine I drank. I didn’t tell the others, although now I think about it, it would have been best. The portable loos were disgusting. They smelled and everyone just decides to throw all their litter around them.
I think I must have fallen asleep in there because when I looked at my watch it said 1:00am. I came out wobbling about stupidly but I did not care what everyone thought of me. All I knew was I had to find my friends. That’s when I saw Wesley in a car down the road. The thing was he was with two other people about 20 years old. I had seen them somewhere before. I decided to go and ask Wesley where the others were.
When I eventually got to the car, I knocked on the window. I could see the other two figures now. One had a stubble beard and a scar across his face. The other was clean-shaven and had a patch on one eye. That’s when I recognised them. I had seen them in the newspaper. They lived in the Greenwall estate. They were partners in crime. They had first been in a gang war and then riots, I think they were last captured on CCTV stealing drugs from a shop.
Then I saw Lucy in the car. All of a sudden Wesley and the other two chucked Lucy out and then one of them stabbed me, spilling blood all over Lucy. Then they knocked me out.
The police found me next morning. There was Lucy, shot in the head. They had left the gun behind and my blood DNA was on her T-shirt. The weird thing was that the car belongs to Eric, the knife had Ashley’s blood on it, the gun had belonged to Wesley.
But weirdest of all, Freddy had gone.
