Ice Rink

George Okines writes (Feb 2010)

I think there are a lot of local people that feel that the Ice rink [picture] could be saved. The council is putting  lot of effort and money into making individual householders renovate their sea front properties, in order to preserve our heritage. Yet the building that we swam in as children and skated on in our youth is being allowed to rot in our midst. We are trying to get a campaign going to get the ice rink open again. 3,683 people of Hastings have expressed interest on Facebook.

If all those people will be prepared to donate £10 per month for a year, we could raise almost half a million pounds in 12 months and we haven’t yet started to approach local businesses. Sadly, because the ice rink is underground out of sight we seem to be ignoring it. We would want the people of Hastings to be granted some kind of lease at a peppercorn rent. I think we can achieve it. Imagine the money it would generate for this town with people coming in from other towns along the coast. It is not just an ice rink, there are opportunities for restaurant facilities. All sorts of community activities could take place.

The most important thing is that the people of Hastings get united for a common goal for their community. If we achieve this, we would not let it go the same way again. We at Arko Property Management are getting right behind this important issue. What do your readers think?
