Mel: I want your wool

Mel wants your wool

Mel wants your wool

Mel Fisher, often to be seen around Bohemia walking her great dane Harvey, wants your wool. Not for herself, but for knitting baby clothes for children in Tibet, Korea and Kenya. Mel, who started her knitting career when she was 19, has been working so hard hand-knitting hats and jackets that she has used up all her own wool. “Most of the babies who die, do so in the first few  months of being born’, says Mel “because the temperature drops so dramatically at night. The babies need warm hats and clothes to keep the warmth in”. She was moved by a Save The Children* TV appeal. “So far, I’ve made and sent off 85 items”. Anyone wishing to donate spare double knitting wool can leave it at the office of Bohemia Village Voice, 79, Bohemia Road. Any colour will be acceptable and it doesn’t matter how small the amount – Mel says she can incorporate it into other colours. *Save The Children, 1, St John’s Lane, London, EC1M 4AR. 020 7012 6400. www.savethechildren.org.uk
