Unlucky motorist gets clamped in St Peters Road

“I’ve taken 10,000 cars off Hastings roads in six years” the Voice was informed by Hastings Environmental Services’ clamping lady last month. “And that’s why you hardly ever see an untaxed vehicle in Hastings.” She’d just fitted a clamp to a green Fiat in St Peter’s Road. “I’m always accompanied by a PCSO – in case of a breach of the peace. Not everyone is pleased to see me”. A large yellow warning notice is always stuck to the windscreen. It says: “STOP! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MOVE THIS UNTAXED VEHICLE. See information card for release instructions. It is an offence to interfere with the wheelclamp. It is an offence to remove this notice”. The removal fee is £200, but that includes £120 surety which is refunded if you get your road tax paid within 14 days. Payments must be made to Menzies House.
