What about the badgers?
Chris Yates, project manager at LSEED, says “The ecologists are still surveying the badgers and will be for the next two to three weeks. Various ecology surveys have been going on for almost a year. There is a tree preservation order along the whole front of Bohemia Road. Tree surveys are still going on.” Regarding the surrounding green areas he said “There is a plan to clean up the frontal area by Bohemia Road and the back, where the cottages used to be. This will become the responsibility of the groundsmen, one of whom has arboreal qualifications. There may be more planting.” Asked how this will affect the badger sett near Bohemia Road he said “The rubbish will be cleaned up, but we can’t just storm in and disturb them. We’re constantly taking on any comments and feedback. We’ve had a couple of notes from the badger people and it’s gone straight to our ecologists and they take it on board. ”
Don Wise of the Hastings Badger Protection Society said he has objected strongly to the planning application. He said, “It is not possible to build any houses there.” He added that he had spoken to the police about the on-going problem of rubbish dumping at that particular sett. “They had a look at the sett and are keeping an eye on it in case any more stuff is thrown down.”
