73 Bohemia Road was a hive of lively activity one Saturday morning recently. The occasion was a “Meet and Greet Day” at the new Eclipse Hair Salon, run by Rachael Martin and Lisa Castleman.
Potential customers were waiting outside the doors well before the event was due to start at 11 am, and shortly afterwards it looked like a party: half of Bohemia seemed to be there.
Rachael and Lisa were busy taking appointments, a group of ladies were sitting in comfortable seats by the window chatting over tea and biscuits, and other groups were standing about talking animatedly. Manager Rachael, who studied hairdressing at Hastings College, said, “We opened the doors at ten to eleven as there were lots of people waiting. We’ve got quite a few appointments already. Most came to make appointments. A cut and colour’s the popular thing today.”
“People have been really supportive.” said Lisa, who used to work at Toni & Guy in Bedfordshire. Fran Molin, Rachael’s father’s partner, said, “I got here at five to eleven and you could hardly move, there were so many people! It’s been lots of hard work – the salon has been totally gutted and redone.” Rachael said, “Everyone says what a change it is from how it was before.” She added, “I would like to thank everyone who has come in. It’s been much busier than I thought it would be!”
