Bohemia

Part 3 of our series on Bohemia in Long Island, New York

The Library Our library (pictured) is called the Connetquot Public Library,   located in Bohemia. It serves the Connetquot district (taking its name from the Connetquot River) which includes the villages of Bohemia, Oakdale, Ronkonkoma, and parts of Sayville and it serves a population of about 40,000. In 1975 the library opened in a small module building with over 1,000 residents arriving on the first day to register for library cards. Over the past thirty years, the library has expanded not just physically but also in the services it provides. Last year the library circulated over four hundred thousand items and offered over 800 children and adult programs, career counselling and senior advocate services for residents in need of such assistance.
