Costcutter takes over the old Lullabuys shop

A new supermarket opened in Bohemia in October. A Costcutter store has taken over the old Lullabuys premises at 68-70 Bohemia Road. There were plans two years ago to open the shop as the Bohemia Foodmarket, but the then owner, Masood Iqbal, decided not to go ahead due to strong local objection to him getting a premises licence to sell alcohol. Until recently the premises remained empty. Costcutter’s manager Mr A. Pathmanathan said that a lot of work had been done fitting the shop out, and that trade is building up.
“Five or six new customers come along every day. They see us here and say, ‘Oh! When did you open?’
Asked whether he had had any opposition to his application for a licence to sell alcohol, he said he had only had one objection. “We close at 10 pm so we’re not getting any trouble.”
Mr Pathmanathan said that his policy for stocking the shop is very much customer led. “People come in and ask us if we could stock something, so we do. Michael Foster came in and suggested we stock a range of envelopes for customers, which we now have done.”
Mr Pathmanathan comes from Surrey, where he worked in a supermarket and then had his own vegetable business. He will now  be moving down to live in the flat above the shop in Bohemia Road.
