The Old Bakery is now selling bric-a-brac (Dec 2008)

An interesting-looking shop at 132 London Road, near the junction with Tower Road West is The Old Bakery bric-a-brac shop (formerly Roseanna & Brian’s card shop).

‘It started this summer – or maybe it was Spring’, said stand-in manager Susan Pottinger (picture).

The shop is open only on Thurs, Fri and Saturdays. ‘Why it’s called ‘The Old Bakery’, I’ve no idea. We sell books, videos, furniture, bric-a-brac, children’s and adult’s clothes, electrical goods, white goods – in fact, if it’s saleable, we’ll stock it. We get a lot of mums who come in at school time with their children to buy children’s toys. We also get the odd dealer after bits of furniture’.

The shop stock is a lot more extensive than at first sight appears. There’s a large warehouse, just above the premises, reached by a flight of wooden steps at the side of the shop, which has half a dozen rooms crammed with second-hand furniture, books, etc.

The business is part of a cleaning and house clearing company, Angel Fish Cleaning, with offices in Hastings and Bexhill.
