Neighbourhood Watch

PCSO Andy Hubbard

Local street bobby Andy Hubbard gives an update on the efforts being made to recruit NW members.

Sussex Police and other local and national agencies are looking for volunteers to join their local Neighbour-hood Watch scheme. As the local Police Community Support Officer I have recently been very busy distributing letters seeking volunteers for both scheme members and more importantly the co-ordinators to run the scheme. So far there have been over 2,500 letters delivered by both myself and with the grateful assistance of the Hastings Police cadets. In return I have (to date) had over 200 replies for residents wishing to join schemes. On top of this I have also had (to date) 21 people reply with an interest in becoming scheme co-ordinators.
A meeting will be held so that the co-ordinators and scheme members can discuss any issues. Also at this meeting all members will recieve a free information pack which explains what the new Neighbouhood watch scheme is all about and how it operates.
After this the process is that an e-mail will be sent to the co-ordinator who will then pass this to other members via e-mail. DON`T PANIC if you do not have an e-mail account or access to a computer, there will be a paper copy of the release. The paper release of Neighbourhood watch will be issued to the co-ordinator via post and then delivered to the members addresses. I am sure that the co-ordinators would appreciate some help from their new scheme members!!
After the initial set up of the scheme the co-ordinators will then be responsible for the collation of information and passing this to the relevant agencies. There will be a meeting every three months or so to discuss any issues with the police, councillors and other agencies and also an oppourtunity to introduce new members.
If you have not already received a letter or have lost the letter please call me on 0845 60 70 999 ext 21185 or e-mail me at andrew.hubbard@sussexpnn.police.uk
Thankyou all for your support, PCSO Andy Hubbard and PC Nick Bellhouse.
