Cricket match off

Even good old English spirit had to bow to the bad weather on Bank Holiday Monday May 26th.  After a sunny Saturday and Sunday, the inhabitants of Hastings awoke to a wet, blustery Bank Holiday Monday to find over an inch of rain had fallen in the night. The wind was force seven. The tension was on at Horntye Park, where Sussex CCC was due to play Essex CCC in the first county game in Hastings for seven years.
Despite covers on the wicket and grass, and initial hopes that play might yet be possible, the long-awaited county match was finally called off at 2 pm by the umpires, who have the final word.
Kevin Miller, general manager at Horntye, said “I felt very disappointed for the public and for the staff. A lot of people came and were huddled up under their coats. Staff have been grooming it for weeks. But that’s the game, isn’t it – weather depending.”
Next county match at Horntye is on Thurs 10th July: Sussex CCC 2nd XI vs Kent CCC 2nd XI.
