Male customers at Eclipse hair salon in Bohemia Road are asked “tea, coffee or beer?” Owner, Lisa Castleman, says “It’s our way of encouraging more men into the salon – for £4.95 they get a haircut and a beer – it’s very popular.” The hairdressing business opened last summer and has been steadily building up trade. “We now have a nail bar with a fully-trained nail technician, Maria (26) who has her own range of gel nail designs [pictured right] .” A full set costs just under £20.
Lorraine (36) has moved from Indigo hair salon in Battle and joined Lisa’s team, bringing her own group of loyal customers with her. “Our trainee Katie does a really good head massage, which is offered free with every shampoo we do”, says Lisa.
Are children welcome? “Very much so,” says Lisa, “We have a miniature Alfa Romeo [pictured top right} for them to sit in while they have their hair cut.” The toy car, (registration ECLIPSE 1) was presented to the salon by Imperial Motors of London Road. “The kids love it”, says Lisa.
The salon is now open six days a week with late night Fridays (8pm). “We can also do late night appointments any day”, says Lisa.
