CLOUDESLEY ROAD – an application for a new premises licence for The Cloudsley, at 7 Cloudsley Road, was received from Shahriar Mazaridi by HBC, 15 May 2009. The licence is for the exhibition of films,  playing of recorded music and the supply of alcohol. Alcohol to be served to non-residents only with food. Proposed hours of opening to the public: 8.30am to 11pm, seven days a week (midnight Fri & Sat). Further information from Hastings Council, 100, Menzies Road, St Leonards.
CARPENTER – Peter Clarke of Horntye Road says “I am a fully qualified carpenter and can do roofing, conversions, fencing, property maintenance repairs, and tiling. For emergency repairs, I’m available 24 hours a day.” 440785 and 07526 930 901.

AFRICAN VARIETIES – opened in May in Bohemia Road and promises a wide variety of African and Caribbean foods. Dried stockfish [below]  “will last for 20 years” says manager Dino Odika, “but you have to cook it really well, at least three times, before it can be eaten.” Ukazi is a dried vegetable with many uses, “a bit like spinach.” Other foods on offer include gari, pounded yam, maize meal, egusi, ogbono, plantain, goat meat, cat fish, tilapia, ugu, okoro, uziz, ewdedu and … chin chin.
