Britains biggest tea party
Edward and Elizabeth Preston gave an afternoon ‘Tea at Three’ at their home in Bohemia Road on 25th June in aid of St Michael’s Hospice. This was part of a countrywide event supporting the hospice: Britain’s Biggest Tea Party.
All the cakes were home made. Elizabeth used to bake cakes for the hospice coffee mornings once a month, but due to illness had not been able to continue. She said, “I recently saw an advert in the paper asking people to do afternoon tea as funds were low, and thought, I could do that as it’s a one-off event. I’ve been baking for today’s party for a couple of weeks.” Elizabeth is an old hand at baking cakes. She ran her own business, the Oliver Twist Tearoom, from the premises from 1974 to 1981. The Prestons raised a total of £190 from the event, to which about twenty-two people came.
