Father Alex Charged
At a preliminary hearing at Lewes Crown Court on 17th July, Fr. Alex Brown, former incumbent at St Peter’s Church, was charged with fraud in breach of immigration laws and of solemnising marriages according to the rites of the Church of England without banns being duly published, in breach of the Marriage Act. Co-defendant Vladimir Buchak of Anglesea Terrace faces three charges: conspiracy to facilitate unlawful entry, perverting the course of justice, and forgery of a false passport. Both men pleaded not guilty. Mr Brown was allowed conditional bail. There will be a trial at Lewes starting 7th December, expected to last two weeks. [see also Letters p19]
