Hastings Borough Council’s ‘Lack of Observable Response’

Lewis Nicholls and electic service pillar

Lewis Nicholls writes (Oct 2009)

Dear Sir,

I regularly visit Bohemia. On Tuesday 29th September I saw evidence of vandalism to a pavement-mounted electrical service pillar. It is located outside St Peter’s Church at the junction of Bohemia Road and Chapel Park Road.

The pillar’s metal door was missing, exposing the electrical wiring. I searched the church grounds, found the missing door and placed it out of sight behind the pillar. I then phoned EDF to report what I’d done but they told me to contact my local council. Next I telephoned Hastings Borough Council at Aquila House and reported everything I’d done.

A week later, I was disappointed to see that nothing had yet been done and that the metal door was still sitting where I’d left it a week previously. Two weeks later (i.e. today), I noted that the door has disappeared and the pillar is filling up with leaves (picture).

I realised that my original message had gone awry and that it was time to put my report in writing to the chief executive of HBC. I have therefore written today asking for an explanation of the lack of any observable response.

Lewis Nicholls, Queen’s Road. (Tues 13th Oct).
