Newgate Roads car scrappage day

Grey Fiat Car - Side hit

Grey Fiat Car - Side hit

A number of cars in Bohemia were badly damaged on Monday 5th October. At least five vehicles in Newgate Road were affected. Brian Hughes, whose car was parked outside the Red Cross Hall, said “My own car is a red Ford Fiesta, and, according to the insurance brokers, will be written off as it’s a 1997 model.” Police were on the scene before the incident took place. By great coincidence a police car had collided with a Belisha beacon at the pedestrian crossing in Bohemia Road by Newgate Road. The police were thus on the scene to witness the incident taking place.   Vehicles damaged included a Toyota Previa people carrier (nicknamed ‘Sherman’ by Kristi Shanahan of  Newgate Road who uses it to drive her parents around), a Vauxhall van, a Fiat car, a Ford Fiesta car, and another Ford car. All were parked between the Red Cross Hall and Bohemia Rd.
o It is understood that David Lee Douglas has pleaded guilty to four charges: 1. using a vehicle without a licence. 2. failing to provide a specimen for analysis. 3. driving whilst disqualified. 4. resisting or obstructing a constable. The case was adjourned to 26th October at Hastings Magistrates Court for the defendant to be sentenced.
[Our thanks to Brian Hughes and Kristi Shanahan for help with this item.]
