The sham marriages scandal hit national headlines in 2009 and the church closed in January 2010. The last ever service was held on Monday 31st October 2011 when the parish of St Peter and St Paul was dissolved and split between four surrounding parishes (Christchurch, St Matthews, Trinity Church and St John\u2019s in Pevensey Road).
