Peter Feist of hairdressing salon \u201cFlickers\u201d on Tower Road finally hung up his scissors and hair-dryers at the end of August after 30 years of business at this address. He started hairdressing in London in 1960, training up in London with Raymond \u2013 \u2018Mr. Teasie Weasie\u2019 (below), the UK\u2019s first celebrity hairdresser, before moving to Eastbourne to head up a Raymond salon there, and then on to his own business in St.Leonards.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything has come together, I reached the retirement age of 65, the lease expired, so it was time to call it a day. Teasie Weasie was very good training at the time, but things have moved on a lot since then.\u201d On the day prior to closing, the salon was busy with several regulars at various stages of treatment. So what kept them coming back? Pamela Stapely said, \u201c He\u2019d only just begun here when I started coming. He always said he would manage to fit you in, if you didn\u2019t mind waiting a little.\u201d Elvira Griffin said, \u201cI just like the way he does my hair.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once you find a hairdresser you like you keep on coming back. Like every successful hairdresser Peter has the necessary skill as a crimper, as well as charm, chat and being a good listener. One client who comes in once a month comes all the way from the Isle of Wight, others travel from Bexhill and Battle. When a sole trader packs in his or her business, there are no colleagues to organize going away parties, hand over bunches of flowers or make speeches. But perhaps this article will help express thanks on behalf of all the ladies in Bohemia and beyond who Peter has kept looking their best for the last 30 years.<\/p>\n
