It serves the Connetquot district (taking its name from the Connetquot River) which includes the villages of Bohemia, Oakdale, Ronkonkoma, and parts of Sayville and it serves a population of about 40,000. In 1975 the library opened in a small module building with over 1,000 residents arriving on the first day to register for library cards. Over the past thirty years, the library has expanded not just physically but also in the services it provides.
