Short stories stream in

At the time of writing, the Village Voice has received 19 entries for its ultra-short story competition. Some writers have submitted multiple entries (permitted under competition rules), including a whopping seven pieces from one author. The fascinating range of submissions includes several ghost stories, a few war stories, a tale of romantic longing, and stories touching on insanity and death. In our opinion, the judges’ task will not be an easy one, such is the quality of the pieces submitted so far.
Close readers of this newsletter should note that as Julian Beecroft now takes an active part in producing it, he has resigned as one of the judges of the ultra-short story competition. The closing date for submissions is 28th February 2007. The judging will take place in the first week of March, and the winner will be announced in the next issue of the Village Voice, to be published on 17th March. [JLH]
