Red, white and blue

More than 300 good humoured people from Bohemia, dressed up in red, white and blue, came despite the rain to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee. Our aim from the start was that it was to be a free, inclusive community event aiming to bring neighbours together. Local businesses, shops and individuals generously sponsored us and St Paul’s school leant us all the tables and chairs and car parking facilities.  St Matthews Church and St John’s Church supported us and neighbours decorated their houses while the BBC filmed us.

Fancy Dress

There was a Bouncy castle, face painting, children’s craft activities and games, Punch & Judy, children’s fancy dress competition [photo], the Land girls and a live band to entertain us. The Fusion Choir opened with the National anthem and continued with ‘sing along’ traditional songs.  Amber Rudd MP, Rob Lee and KimForward attended and councillor Andrew Cartwright joined in with a Zumba demonstration [photo]!

Balloons

We ended with a red, white and blue balloon release [photo]. The North Star pub provided all the soft  drinks and fed us bacon butties as we were setting up. So many folk  assisted in clearing up that by the time the street cleaners came in the evening they said the road was cleaner than before we started!

Visitors for the day signed a guest book which will be kept in the North Star. We intend to invite neighbours to view all the photos taken of the  day in the next couple of weeks. The Clarence Road Street Party committee wants to thank all those involved to make the day so successful.
